One teenage youth was found dead just days following being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Begin

The investigation learned how his mother got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman asking if her son was her child. The message stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said items was never stolen in the beginning".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes attracted social media comments, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "social media content were really upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Health Impact

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views genuinely were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The inquest learned that one young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The hearing received testimony from educational staff at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's parents' telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his family said they never receive that message.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator informed the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the police and following his questioning he was freed while investigations continued."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any agency caused or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is not possible to discern his intent."
